Lucasfilm Open To ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2 If Fans ‘Really Want It’

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and director Deborah Chow addressed the possibility of another Obi-Wan Kenobi season.

The conclusion to Obi-Wan Kenobi hit Disney Plus on Wednesday. When the Star Wars series was first announced, it was said to be a limited series like WandaVision. However, plans can change, and on Disney Plus, it notably said “season finale” and not “series finale.”

Ewan McGregor previously shared that he’s up for reprising the role of Obi-Wan once again, and Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy also teased plans for another season. It’s also been reported that a second season is already in development. When asked about another season, Kennedy discussed an expansion of the story with Entertainment Tonight:

“Well, frankly, we did set out to do that as a limited series. But I think if there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us. And if we feel like, ‘OK, there’s a real reason to do this; it’s answering the why then,’ then we’ll do it. But we’ll see.”

Deborah Chow, who jumped from The Mandalorian to direct all six episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, would like to have a story worth telling before moving forward with season two:

“For this one, we really did conceive it to be a limited series. It really is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. So, we weren’t thinking past that. I think, you know, if it was to go forward, it would only be if there was a real reason for another one.”

Kenobi’s Force Ghost Journey?

There are several directions Obi-Wan Kenobi could move towards next if Lucasfilm greenlights another season. The most apparent continuation would be a storyline involving Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn, who returned at the end of the series as a force Ghost, to train Kenobi to learn the same ability. Given the success of the series, it feels likely Kenobi will return in some fashion.

Here is the synopsis for Obi-Wan Kenobi:

During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.

Directed by Deborah Chow from Joby Harold’s scripts, the series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. The series will also see the return of legendary Star Wars composer John Williams, who scored a theme.
