Rumors surrounding Dylan O’Brien have long suggested he has been set to take on a superhero role. While for a time he seemed to be the favorite for the MCU’s Spider-Man, rumors that he will play Nightwing in a DC project continue to persist.
Talking about the rumors while promoting his new movie, Not Okay, Dylan O’Brien shared his frustrations with the propagation of the Nightwing reports.
Much time has passed since the Nightwing rumors began and Dylan O’Brien has said he is glad that for the most part the rumors have been debunked.
While speaking to Screen Rant about Not Okay, which deals with a character whose online lie spirals out of control, Dylan O’Brien drew a parallel between the message of the film and the reporting of his casting as DC’s Dick Grayson.
When asked whether there had ever been any truth to the Nightwing rumors, O’Brien said:
“No, no, never, never. I’m glad that time has passed and people can see that I was telling the truth. There was so much doubt and speculation and theories and all just from, I don’t even know who originally put… I think that they just post s***. They have no source. It doesn’t come from anything. It’s crazy actually to see it catch fire. That’s not really fair, is it? It is [like the message of Not Okay]. Yeah. I mean, it was like an account that has a following. It’s somewhat of a credible source and they’re just making s*** up. That’s interesting, isn’t it?”
While Dylan O’Brien might not be donning Nightwing’s mask for DC, the character is currently being portrayed by a host of other actors across various DC projects. Brenton Thwaites is playing Dick Grayson in the HBO Max series Titans, Harvey Guillén is playing the role in Season 3 of Harley Quinn and Christopher Sean is playing him in the Gotham Knights game.
