Michael Keaton returned to the superhero genre as the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming and recently reprised the role in Morbius for a head-scratching mid-credits scene. Keaton also returned to his most iconic role as Batman in both The Flash and Batgirl. Despite having major roles in superhero films, Keaton has never seen any of them, and he explained to Variety why that is:
“I know people don’t believe this, that I’ve never seen an entire version of any of those movies — any Marvel movie, any other. And I don’t say that I don’t watch that because I’m highbrow — trust me! It’s not that. It’s just that there’s very little things I watch. I start watching something, and think it is great and I watch three episodes, but I have other shit to do!”
Michael Keaton Also Praises ‘The Flash’ Script
During the interview, Michael Keaton also said that one of the reasons why he suited up as Batman again in The Flash was because of the script:
“The writing was actually really good. So I thought, why not? It’s cool to drop in and I’m curious to see if I can pull it off.”
Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.
In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.
The Flash opens on June 23, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding Michael Keaton’s Batman, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
