TikTok already competes with other apps like Spotify and Instagram for finding music, so it makes sense for the company to build on this idea. In fact, a company patent that just found shows that this is exactly what TikTok plans to do in the near future.
Someone on the inside learned about the patent applications that get sent in. ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, sent these to the US Patent. Trademark Office as part of a trademark application for “TikTok Music.” ByteDance first put in for a trademark in Australia in November of the year before.
The abstract of the patent, says that, like Spotify, TikTok Music customers are more likely to make, and share. Recommends playlists to each other. You are also able to share your thoughts on songs and broadcast live audio and video.
ByteDance has worked in the music business before, so they know what they are doing. A Chinese group takes Resso, which is software for streaming music. It came out in 2020 in India, Brazil, and Indonesia. It has some of the same features as the TikTok Music app, like the ability to make, share, and recommend playlists.
ByteDance uses TikTok to give customers the Resso service. Resso lets TikTok users hear the full studio recordings of their favorite songs. So they can fully enjoy the music they find there. As of November 2021, about 40 million people in India, Brazil, and Indonesia used Resso every month. In January 2022, this number grew dramatically.
At the moment, it is not clear if ByteDance wants to build TikTok Music on the same platform as Resso or not.
