Dave Bautista in talks to star in a cop and canine partner film for Netflix

Dave Bautista may need to add Beggin’ Strips to his grocery list now that he’s in talks to star in and produce Unleashed for Netflix. Jeff Tomsic (TagSpy Game) is directing from a script written by Blockers scribes Jim and Brian Kehoe, and the premise sounds a lot like it came from the ’80s to me. Unleashed revolves around a police officer who’s best friends with a canine partner that can sniff out any crime. When Boomer dies on the job, the cop pledges no more pooch partners until he teams with Zeus.

Producing alongside Bautista is Jonathan Meisner with Good Fear’s Chris Bender and Jake Weiner. The Kehoes, who have several other projects in development, will executive produce. In addition to Unleashed, the duo is partnering with Rebel Wilson on Double Fault. Based on a comic strip, Double Fault finds Wilson playing a former tennis phenom who tries to rebound from a McEnroe-esque meltdown by coaching a young player to take a flamethrower to the sport. The Kehoes also scripted Luck Key, a remake of the Korean film of the same name, starring Marlon Wayans.

One thing is for sure, Hollywood loves doggos! Remember K-9Turner & Hooch, and Show Dogs? Alright, maybe Show Dogs is a poor example, but you get my point. Dave Bautista is always a treat, and I bet pairing him with a very good boy for some crime-solving shenanigans on Netflix will make for a good time.

What do you think about the concept for Unleashed? Are you a dog lover? Who are some of your favorite dogs throughout cinematic history? I love Chance and Shadow from Homeward Bound, Dug from Pixar‘s Up, Slink from Toy Story, John Wick’s pit bull, and Cheddar from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Please leave us a list of your favorite Hollywood dogs in the comments below.
