On Thursday, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav teased the company’s plans for DC, revealing that they will create a 10-year plan modeled after Marvel Studios. Warner Bros. also recently axed Batgirl, sharing that they will not release movies they don’t believe in. A story then came out earlier today revealing that current DC Films Chief Walter Hamada almost exited the role after he learned Batgirl would not be released.
Will Hamada Stay At DC?
TheWrap has learned that Warner Bros. Pictures Group co-chairpersons and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy would like to have Walter Hamada remain at the studio. There is also reportedly no timeframe for a decision, despite it being shared that he would exit after the release of Black Adam.
Walter Hamada came to DC in 2018, and under his leadership, the studio has put out Aquaman, Shazam!, Joker, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, The Suicide Squad, and The Batman. If Hamada stays at DC, it’s unclear what role he would play with David Zaslav looking for a Kevin Feige-like figure to head the IP.
Here is the synopsis for DC Films’ next release, Black Adam:
Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script written by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani, the DCEU film stars Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui, and Pierce Brosnan.
Black Adam opens in theaters on October 21, 2022. Be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news regarding Walter Hamada’s future, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more original video content.
