Calling all of our 80’s babies. Milli Vanilli is coming to the big screen for the first time.
80s pop R&B duo Milli Vanilli is getting the big-screen treatment in a biopic titled Girl You Know It’s True. If you aren’t aware of who Milli Vanilli was, well they were a chart topping music duo that came crashing down. Pitch forks and tar was the least of what came down upon the house of Milli Vanilli when their lip synching was revealed. Lets back up, Milli Vanilli experienced a meteoric rise and ultimately catastrophic fall in the late ’80s and early ’90s. The duo scored three number one hits in the U.S. with tracks “Blame It on the Rain,” “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You,” and “Baby Don’t Forget My Number,” earning a best-new-artist Grammy Award in 1989. The duo’s fall came when they were plagued by scandal when it was revealed that Milli Vanilli was a false musical enterprise engineered by producer Frank Farian. In reality, the group’s hit tracks were sung by other vocalists. When the truth was exposed, Milli Vanilli’s Grammy was stripped from them, a decision that was a first in the Recording Academy’s history.
It has been unveiled that playing these titualr characters will be none other than, newcomers Elan Ben Aliand Tijan Njie as the group’s frontmen, Fabrice Morvan and Robert Pilatus. As the faces of Milli Vanilli, Morvan and Pilatus took major heat for their roles in the deceit, and after several failed attempts at career rejuvenation, Pilatus died after mixing alcohol with pills in 1998. Little details are known about the full plot details of the film at this time, but we’re imagining it will catalogue how the deception came to be and how the chips fell once the farce was revealed.
Girl You Know It’s True has yet to receive an official release date. Filming on the project is scheduled to wrap in December.
