The Way Of Water’ Tracking For Huge Opening Weekend

James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is about to dominate the box office.

Sahu Newshas revealed that Avatar: The Way of Water is on track to open somewhere between $150 million to $170 million at the North American box office. The first entry in the Avatar series made its debut to $77 million over the December 18-20 weekend in 2009.

Earlier this week, Avatar: The Way of Water secured a release date in China. The movie is currently slated to open in the Middle Kingdom on December 16th, the same day as its Global release.

In more Pandora-related news, Avatar: The Way of Water has received a PG-13 rating by the Motion Picture Association Of America. The rating is a result of “sequences of strong violence and intense action, partial nudity and some strong language.”

The final trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water made its debut on Sunday night, announcing that tickets for the movie are now on sale. The Way of Water is one of James Cameron‘s longest movies to date, clocking in at around 3 hours and 10 minutes.

“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure” according to Disney’s official synopsis for the film.

Directed by James Cameron from a script he co-wrote with Josh Friedman, The Way of Water stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi and Kate Winslet.
