James Gunn Reveals Approach To Future DC Studios Casting Decisions


James Gunn is already defending his DC Studios casting decisions.

With the DC Studios slate being revealed later this month, James Gunn has opened up about his casting approach for the upcoming DC Universe movies. Gunn explained his decision-making process after being criticized for saying that he expects to reunite with his Guardians of the Galaxy cast at the DC Universe.

“We have hundreds of roles to cast,” Gunn wrote on Twitter. “As I’ve always done, some will be brand new faces, some will be actors I’ve worked with before and some will be actors you know who I’ve never worked with. What matters most is the actor fits the role and they’re easy to work with.”

James Gunn and his DC Studios partner Peter Safran are expected to present the first chapter of their multi-year DC Universe roadmap towards the end of the month. Details regarding their DCU plans are being kept under lock and key at Warner Bros. Discovery.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are now in charge of DC’s film, television and animations efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing the company’s comic book-related assets under one roof. Gunn is said to be focusing on the creative direction of the DCU while Safran is handling things that are related to business and production.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
