New ‘Secret Invasion’ Magazine Covers Tease Skrull Takeover

Secret Invasion is finally set to debut on Disney Plus next month. New covers from Empire Magazine tease Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury being surrounded by Skrulls.

Despite the series premiering in just over a month, marketing for Secret Invasion has been almost as elusive as Nick Fury himself. Aside from a trailer at the start of April, Marvel fans have mostly been kept in the dark about Samuel L Jackson’s return as Fury. The latest Empire Magazine covers give fans a brand new look at Fury’s face-off against the Skrulls, including a cover inspired by the film Being John Malkovich, showing Fury surrounded by aliens. In the comics, Secret Invasion was defined by the Skrulls replacing dozens of the world’s most recognizable superheroes. The series seems to be taking a departure that’s more similar to a political thriller, with the only superhero confirmed to appear in the show being Don Cheadle’s War Machine. Despite this, the stakes remain higher than ever as Nick Fury attempts to unravel a mystery that could end the World as he knows it.

How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu . The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.

The Secret Invasion comic book event was a huge success and is widely regarded as one of the best Marvel storylines of all time. The Disney Plus series is being led by Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, focusing on the aftermath of the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home and other Marvel projects.

The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
