Ed Sheeran’s long-time touring partner and song co-writer has revealed his teenage son was killed in a tragic accident.
US singer, songwriter Ben Kweller, 41, took to social media overnight to announce the tragic death of his 16-year-old son Dorian Zev Kweller, who died in a car accident on Tuesday.
“There’s no way that I can be typing this but I am …. Our son, Dorian Zev Kweller, was killed last night. He was only 16 and he was a true legend. Kindest, gentle soul, a friend to all,” Ben wrote on Instagram.
“If you knew him, you know. We’ll never get over him as long as we’re here on earth. Please keep his spirit alive with your memories and the music he made: @reallyzev.”
Ben is referring to his son’s blossoming music career, with the budding musician in the early stages of following in his father’s footsteps.
“Dorian Zev wrote and recorded songs every day. A true poet from the day he started speaking,” he said.
“Only a few of his recordings were released but he was on a path and excited about his journey. He had so many plans!!!
“My baby boy was at the starting line with so much life ahead of him … I have no idea why things like this happen. We’re in complete shock and don’t know what the future holds.”
Sheeran, 32, is currently embarking on the Australian leg of his Global Mathematics tour.
He performed back-to-back sold-out shows in Sydney at the weekend, and is next set to hit Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday and Friday before wrapping his Aussie tour with shows at Adelaide Oval on March 7, and Optus Stadium in Perth on March 12.
Ben previously opened up about his working relationship with Sheeran in an Instagram post in 2021.
“[Sheeran] and I have had a cosmic connection since we first met in 2015,” Kweller wrote on social media.
“Not only is he one of the greats in the game, but he’s one of the most humble, gentle souls on the globe.”
